Star | Siri | Wind River photos
The dogs are slowing down; their age is showing. We used to run them 3 miles in the morning but Siri's developed a limp and Star's just not interested in running anymore. So they stay home a sleep a bit more than in the past and then get out for short walks.
Star (aka the Great Bunny Hunter)
Star's our 9-year-old black lab/border collie mix. She likes to swim and loves to eat. She's not afraid of anything—even watches 4th of July fireworks with us. She's the boss of our two-dog pack even though she's the small dog. She's definitely a lab most of the time—easy going and just happy to lay around home.
We adopted her from the Summit Animal Shelter; she was the only dog that didn't bark at us when we walked past the kennels. When she moved in with us she used to hoard food. We'd find it in the couch cushions, under our pillows, etc. She also had a separation anxiety problem. So... we found Sirius and that solved both problems. Star ate all of her food immediately (and sometimes Siri's food too) and had a buddy to hang out with all day.
Siri (aka Perro Loco)
Siri's our crazy 10-year-old border collie/(Bernese Mountain Dog?) mix . He's smart, obedient, and he gives the best hugs. He's definitely a mountain dog—he LOVES snow and cold weather.
We picked up Siri from the shelter in Buena Vista where he had just transferred from a month's stay at the Salida shelter. Star,
who got along with Siri fine at the shelter,
decided that Siri was
not allowed to ride home with us in HER car.
We spent a week with Star herding Siri all around
the house and starting fights over food. Almost
had to
take Siri back to the shelter. Now they're pretty good friends; not the best of friends but pretty good friends.
