Wind River Range, Summer 2007

Day 6–Over and Out ( 12 miles | View route )

Back to Rainbow CampWoke to a loud thunder clap around 5am. Up at 6 but waiting for the sun which showed up around 7am. Mix of clouds and sun this morning....got packed up and headed out a little after 9am. Hiked down the Middle Fork Trail to avoid the sheep—worked out nicely as they were grazing around Bobs Lake. Made it to Little Divide Lake around noon and stopped for lunch—peanut butter, blackberry jam, and wild blueberry wraps. YUM!

Looking back toward South CreekJim fished a bit at Little Divide—about $1 a cast ($11/day for a fishing license). Nada.

A lot of people going out and coming in today. Most people and animals we saw all week: 30+ people, 16 horses, two dogs, and that HUGE herd of sheep that we could hear from camp.

Decided to haul on the way out—Jim ended up carrying Star's pack so we could keep up the pace. With a pack, she was slowing us down to about 1-1/2 miles/hour. Without a pack, we moved at around 3 miles/hour. Covered the 6.4 miles from Little Divide Lake to the Scab Creek TH in a little over 2 hours. Out at about 3:30 and off to Pinedale for real food (Mmmmm....pizza at Wind River Pizzeria and Ben & Jerry's ice cream) and beer.
